When Koi Raymond paints she aims to connect with the viewer. Throughout the past year her art work has changed dramatically. She uses only acrylic and water to create images that center female figures through the lenses of pin-up, tattoo art, and mythology. Her work tackles themes of femininity, violence against women, constrictive gender norms, and beauty ideals, She uses the organic of watered-down acrylic to create a base, building up the layers until they come together to form their own ecosystem of color and line. Currently, she is working on her BFA in Painting at SUNY Purchase with a focus in printmaking. She also works as a tattoo artist, which shows in her work through her bold and graphic use of line.
